Message from the ANUSA President

Hi all,

I hope your summers are going well!

Yesterday, ANUSA was proud to support the work of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy for the Invasion Day/Sovereignty Day rally. As in previous years, ANUSA provided support during the march and at the Embassy. This is a continuation of a long-standing relationship of solidarity between the student union and Embassy that stretches back to the founding days of the Embassy. ANUSA stands resolutely in solidarity with the First Nations activists fighting for justice.

The rally yesterday also saw the pilot of the ANUSA/ANU Law Reform and Social Justice Legal Observer Program. A group of students attended the rally as trained observers, monitoring the behaviour of police and security towards protestors. This program will dovetail into work to protect the increasingly intruded upon right to protest.

This week ANUSA also launched Pandemonium, our 2023 O-Week. Pandemonium reflects the fact that student life has never been quiet or orderly. It reflects that a vibrant student experience is shaped by the chaos of student communities. In O-Week, a consistently chaotic period, I hope you will have a chance to enjoy the pandemonium.

As ever, ANUSA remains here to support you.

Ben

 ANUSA O-Week 2023: Pandemonium!

“Wild and noisy disorder or confusion; uproar.”

ANU is a place of vast chaos. Amongst the calmness of sullies creek and willow trees that sway in the breeze, there is an underlying desire for change and movement. Buildings full of students learning to disrupt and transform their fields, walkways full of protestors fighting for justice, residential halls committed to fighting social norms, ANU is a place of uproar.

We are not afraid to make noise, we are loud but clear. We are passionate, proactive, perceptive, persuasive.

Welcome to O-Week 2023: Pandemonium. Join us for a chaos filled week with everything from outdoor movie nights to silent discos in the library!
