Palestine Callathon

In May, Members of Parliament (MP) voted against a motion to recognise Palestine, with a key MP stating that Australia would recognise Palestine when the time is right. After three months of inaction, we ask- when is the right time? Over 40000 people have been killed in Palestine and yet the government remains silent.

Collective action is powerful, and we must take action now! It can feel scary to call MPs so we have organised a call-a-thon to do it together! We will have guides to help you call. Come along, hang out, and exercise your democratic rights!

When? Wednesday 28th of August at 2pm
Where? ANUSA Boardroom (On top of Lab)

Please note that our events are a safe space, and we will not tolerate any forms of discrimination, racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism. It is a requirement that participants remain polite and cordial in their calls to MPs.

Shut Up and Write (HDR)
29 August, 30 August, 4 September, 5 September, 6 September

Shut Up and Write sessions are for you to get together regularly and focus on short, intense bursts of productive writing in a supportive environment, using the Pomodoro Technique. This technique involves writing in silence for 40 to 50 minutes bursts, with regular ten-minute rests for coffee, snacks and chatting. Chatting is a good way to have a ‘brain break’, especially between intense periods of focus. Writers work on their own tasks – there are no set exercises or group work. This is a great way to share methods, successes, challenges, and opportunities as writers. Read what the Thesis Whisperer says on how to Shut Up and Write works.

Clubs Regulations Consultation
6 September, 20 September, 4 October

At ANUSA OGM 3, ANUSA is looking at introducing various changes to the financial section of the Clubs Regulations. The goal of these changes are positive improvements in grant demand, systems of guaranteed funding, and quality of life changes. This is an open consultation with the ANUSA Clubs Officer for all students who are involved within Clubs and Societies. These sessions are intended for students to provide ideas and feedback, and have an opportunity to read and provide input to ANUSA regarding upcoming Regulation changes.

ANU Appeals Panel Student Nominations Open
The ANU Appeals Panel is a body that reviews disciplinary matters pertaining to students potential breaches of the code of conduct and academic integrity. Every year, ANUSA nominates students to the panel to sit alongside ANU staff members to review appeals under the Appeals Rule.

The Appeals Panel is great for students who have an interest or experience in dealing with complex problem-solving and ensuring that there is due process and natural justice provided to all parties. The workload is highly variable (varying from no work to several hours per week) depending on the number of appeals being made. The work can occasionally include distressing material.

All committee members must bring an impartial and open mind to consideration of each case, and look to make a fair and reasonable decision with regard to all the material before them. Nominees cannot be on academic probation.

If this opportunity is of interest to you, please send 150-200 words on why you're interested and any relevant experience to the ANUSA President, Phoenix O'Neill, at sa.president@anu.edu.au. It is expected that you will serve on the Panel for a period of 2 years (i.e., until the end of 2026). Applications close on 15 September at 5PM.

Assessment Submission Times - Testimonies Wanted
Varying submission times for assessments creates confusion and distress for students. We are aiming to unify submission times across campus to 11:59pm.

As part of this, we are collecting testimonies from students about their experiences with sporadic submission times. If comfortable, please write about how varying submission times affect you, including positive and negative experiences about specific submission times (e.g. 5pm) in this form.
