Message from ANUSA President Phoenix O'Neill

Hi all!

I hope everyone is having a lovely winter break. I have two updates for students.

University Investments

First, the University is currently reviewing its Socially Responsible Investment policy.

This is the policy that guides what the ethical considerations the University must consider when it decides to invest its money. I encourage all students to fill out the consultation form to express their views on the University’s investments by the 17th of July. This is particularly important with the discussions around the University’s investment in weapons companies that we’ve been having this year. The University is also hosting a Town Hall on the 16th of July that you can register for here. This is an amazing opportunity for students to make their voices heard on this matter.

Graduations
Many students have reached out to me about the impact that changing the graduation dates has had on them. I do not have any updates yet, but I want to assure students that I have been having discussions with the University about these experiences, particularly for international students who are disproportionately impacted by the changes. We will be in touch if there are any changes.

Warm regards,

Phoenix

ANUSA Bush Week 2024: Homebound

The ANU Students' Association (ANUSA) acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work, and study on, the Ngunnawal (Ngunawal) and Ngambri peoples, and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and coming, and extend this acknowledgement to all Indigenous peoples.
The Ngunnawal (Ngunawal) and Ngambri peoples are the first peoples of the Canberra region, continuing to live, travel, and preserve their connection to Country since time immemorial. ANUSA acknowledges its role as a colonial institution and commits itself to Indigenous justice and reconciliation through its work.

Step into the heart of Australia, the bush capital - Ngunnawal (Ngunawal) and Ngambri Country (Canberra), with our "Homebound" Bush Week. This is a week to find connection on Country, taking time to walk in the landscapes and places that we call home.

Throughout the week, you'll experience a variety of activities including reptile encounters, DIY workshops, and lots of social events to meet new and friendly faces. Whether you prefer cozy board games night inside, or a campfire under the stars, this week has something for everybody. This is more than just a week of events —it's a journey into the essence of Australia, a chance to connect with nature and our community.

Bring your friends and come join us on this week-long journey in finding connection on Country.
