Dear ANU students,

Next week on Wednesday the 26th March, ANUSA will have its first Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the year. At this meeting there will be a series of constitutional amendments put forward for students to have their say on. All ANU students are eligible to attend and vote.

These amendments seek to holistically improve the operations and governance of ANUSA and ensure that in all regards ANUSA acts in the best interests of ANU students. They have been drafted with the help of independent external reviews and consultations with students and representatives. A full breakdown of the proposed amendments is available here.

9 special resolutions will be considered at OGM 1, they are;

  1. A new, robust process for dealing with disputes and misconduct
  2. Clarifying the roles and responsibilities of elected representatives
  3. The Education Officer chairing meetings of the Education Council (EDC)
  4. Improving the Student Representative Council (SRC) with streamlined membership and additional reporting requirements
  5. Formalising and strengthening the governance of ANUSA Departments
  6. Removing the outdated and non-functioning Financial Review Committee
  7. Strengthening the requirements of the Executive as the committee of management
  8. Responding to concerning reports of financial mismanagement by transitioning the Environment Department to an Environment Committee
  9. A general clean up of wording and formatting

I encourage all students to come to OGM and hear why these amendments are so important for our union. The meeting will be in Marie Reay 2.02, starting at 6:15pm, with an option to join online as well. All the meeting information is available here.

Will Burfoot

2025 ANUSA President
