The ANUSA Legal Service is an accredited community legal centre run by ANUSA. We provide free and confidential legal advice to all ANU students (including both undergraduates and postgraduates). We can help with tenancy, migration or visa advice, legal problems at work, intellectual property, discrimination, defamation, SASH and other legal areas. All legal advice is provided by or under the supervision of an experienced practising lawyer.

You are welcome to bring a support person, or request any special adjustments for your appointment. We offer both in-person or online appointments, so you can seek legal advice if you are outside Canberra or overseas (about a legal issue in Australia).

The ANUSA Legal Service provides support to a diversity of ANU students,
whatever your background, status or occupation. We provide support to all students including those represented by the ANUSA Departments and support groups: including the BIPOC, Disabilities, Indigenous, International Students, Mature Age Students, Queer* and Womens. All students are welcome to seek legal advice and legal support.
Some areas of law that we cannot help with include family law, property law, social security, public housing or wills (see below for other legal services).
ANUSA Legal Service Migration & Visa Advice
If you need help with your student visa, skilled migration, partner visa, the temporary graduate visa or other visas, we also provide visa and migration advice. All ANU students are welcome to make an appointment with us. We also run a migration workshop in semesters one and two. Workshop sessions are promoted on the ANUSA Facebook page. Please follow to be kept informed. You must be a current student at ANU to attend a migration workshop.
ANUSA has been providing legal services to ANU students for over a decade and a half.

ANUSA Legal Service aims to offer free, accessible, and confidential legal advice that all ANU students are free to access. In the circumstance that we do not have the capacity or have the expertise to be of assistance, we are more than happy to make a warm referral for you.
