Assessment Extension
If you are struggling to submit your assessment on time as a coursework student, you can ask for an assessment extension by contacting your course convener in writing or by using the college-specific e-form. Such an application is submitted on or before the due date of the assessment.
How to apply
The assessment extension process for a few colleges is mentioned in the link below:
CASS Assessment Extension Request Form
CBE Assessment Extension Request Form
COL Assessment Extension Form
Research School of Psychology Extension Request Form
Please note, that not all colleges or schools have an e-form for extension requests.
If you cannot find an e-form for your course, you can apply for an extension by emailing your course convener. Please attach any supporting document (such as a medical certificate) to the application. If you currently do not have a supporting document, let the convener know and try to arrange it as soon as possible.
It is recommended that in the extension request, you include:
-
- Course code
-
- Assessment title
-
- Original assessment due date
-
- Proposed extension duration
-
- Support statement – explaining the reason (exceptional circumstances) for asking for an extension
- Attached supporting documentation or EAP
Exceptional circumstances that warrant approval of an Assessment Extension include, but are not limited to:
-
- medical reasons (student injury, illness or medical condition) of such significance that completion of the assessment task was not possible;
-
- family/personal reasons (family injury or illness, bereavement) of such significance that completion of the assessment task was not possible;
-
- employment-related reasons: where a student’s employment status or employment arrangements change unexpectedly due to circumstances beyond their control of such significance that completion of the assessment task was not possible.
Please note, if you have an Education Access Plan (EAP), you may still be required to apply for an extension for the assessments. Not all schools/colleges treat EAP as an automatic extension.
Late Submission
If you miss the deadline and do not have substantial reason to get an extension, you can still get decent marks for the work you have done. Please submit the assessment as soon as practicable. If you submit the assessment late, there is a 5% penalty per working day. The following tables show how this penalty is calculated. (clause 8 of Procedure: Student assessment (coursework)) If you cannot view the tables below you can access them on the website here.
Some courses don’t allow late submissions at all. This would be clearly mentioned in that course’s course outline at the start of the semester.
Please note, as take-home exams are treated as exams, late submission of take-home exams is not permitted. If you would like to apply for deferred examination you can find out more here. EDIT
